Two easy methods for removing scratches from auto paint.

No matter how careful you are about paint protection, you are almost guaranteed to get a scratch on your vehicle from time to time. Fortunately, when that day comes, removing the scratch from your auto paint can be done quickly and with only a few items.

Depending on the size of the scratch and what you want to do, you can use a number of different products depending on your preference. This article will cover two common methods.

No matter what method you choose, you must first wash your car with soap and water and wait for the car to dry completely before doing anything else. Once you car has dried, determine the size of the scratch and decide which solution is right for you.

For small scratches the easiest solution is to buy a rubbing compound that can be found at any auto supply store. Find a compound with your car’s color and squeeze a little bit onto the scratch. Then take a soft cloth and rub the compound into the area with a circular motion.

If the scratch is larger or more textured, filling the scratch with detailing clay is another viable option. The downside of using clay is that if not applied carefully, you can damage the rest of your vehicle’s paint.

For even deeper scratches the best option is generally to sand the area and use auto touch-up paint to bring it to the car’s regular color.
